University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center

The University was officially established in 1918 therefore the Medical School of Debrecen is Central Europe’s first campus medical school.

Medical education in English started in 1987. At present around 1000 international students represent countries from around the world,

particularly Canada, USA, U.K., Scandinavia, Germany, Middle East and Far East.

The Medical School is also one of the largest hospitals in Hungary. There are 18 different clinical departments with more than 1400 inpatient beds.

Programs and fees in the 2008/2009 academic year

Basic Medicine Course (BMC): - tuition fee: 4.800 USD

A one-year premedical (Basic Medicine) course is recommended for those not having enough knowledge in biology, physics and chemistry

 from high school. In addition to these subjects, courses in English, Latin and Hungarian are also included.

Medicine: - tuition fee: 10.800 USD (6.800 USD+4.000 USD) If the student pays the total yearly tuition fee in one installment

before registration to the first semester then the reduced fee is 9,800 USD.

Medical studies take six years (ten semesters + 1 year internship). For foreign students the language of instruction is English. However,

 foreign students are required to learn Hungarian in order to be able to communicate with patients from the third year on.

Dentistry:  - tuition fee: 10.800 USD (6.800 USD+4.000 USD) If the student pays the total yearly tuition fee in one installment

before registration to the first semester then the reduced fee is 9,800 USD. Plus 1.000 USD material cost must be paid from the 3^rd year on.

Dental studies take five years (10 semesters).

The five year program at Debrecen has been carefully structured and designed to ensure a high standard of knowledge, skills and responsibility of dental surgeons.

Pharmacy: - tuition fee: 7.500 USD

The College of Pharmacy of Debrecen University has a dual admission program for undergraduate studies, and for a select number of highly motivated,

 qualified students interested in pursuing both undergraduate and professional studies in Pharmacy and health care related education.

MSc in Public Health -  tuition fee: 8.000 USD 6,000 USD/year for students graduated from the University of Debrecen, MHSC

The aim of the MSc course in Public Health is to train specialists who are capable of monitoring public health problems, and planning,

implementing an evaluating interventions to solve them. 

Accomodation

The Hostel and Student Apartment Hostel, situated within the campus, is capable to accommodate 300 guests in small apartments.

Research Work

There is a considerable amount of scientific research being carried out at the Medical School. Students interested in medical research are encouraged to join ongoing research projects.

Registration Fee

A non-refundable registration fee of 50USD must accompany the students’ application.

The entrance examination costs 450 USD.
